We are thrilled to blog about our newest Bennion & Deville listing, a fabulous 1911-built home thats situated on an expansive corner lot in Mount Baker – the kind of place, reported The Seattle Times, “where a few neighbors hire a band, strap on their tool belts and erect a stage in the park to provide free concerts for the neighborhood. Where people get together to fight City Hall or to dog a major petroleum company over a contaminated site. Where the community club hosts a neighborhood potluck for 300 and a biennial Home Tour requiring 150 volunteers — and also raises around $100,000 a year in college scholarships.”

In keeping with #TBT (throw back thursday) hashtag fad, we found this little throw back photo of one of our Bennion & Deville current listings in an architectural books titled Homes and Gardens of the Pacific Coast Seattle 1913 …
This architectural book was published in 1974 so our assumption is that this photo must be at least 40 years old. It’s clear that this residence looks much the same as it did all those years ago, improved only by the addition of a spa with a mosaic glass wall tucked just under the round arch beneath the expanded stone terrace. It’s always wonderful to see an architecturally significant and historic home like this so beautifully preserved with updates that show ingenuity and thought.
Happy almost Friday!

Seattle Opera Red Carpet Opening Night, Rigoletto
In a considerable effort to ween Seattleites off of a wardrobe of strictly fleece and gore tex, the organizer’s behind this year’s opening night at the Opera are making a big push to spruce up our fair city for fancy occasions that call for, well, a little more Seattle swag. What’s more is that this season opens with Rigoletto, and on the tail of the Gatsby’s reign in the theaters this year, hopefully people got the hint to add a little 30s wear to their wardrobes as the Opera encourages “men in well-draped suits and women in Old Hollywood finery.” Come see and be seen as Seattle tries its hand at glam.
**More information, including ticket purchases and details on the Jester’s Ball (the glam after party) can be found at Seattle Opera.

It’s the New Year and 2014 is sure to bring promise for the future, and new beginnings. Every year millions of people make New Year’s Resolutions to get those new beginnings up and running. The most popular resolutions typically have an end goal of weight loss and living a healthier lifestyle. New to Capitol Hill is the health-infused juice bar, Juicebox. Their goal is to help keep your lifestyle changes on track.
Juicebox is run by Kari Brunson, a former ballet performer turned line cook, and Brandin Myett the former sous chef at La Bete, and How to Cook a Wolf. The concept originally came to life at Seattle’s own Broadway Farmers Market located at the corner of Broadway Ave E and E Pine St at the Seattle Central Community College (open Sundays 11am until 3pm). In November of 2012 Juicebox opened a popup location in La Bete. Every Thursday and Friday from 7am to 1pm Juicebox whipped up its adventurous concoctions to serve to thirsty patrons. November 18th of last year brought Juicebox to its brick and mortar home, here in Capitol Hill.
In addition to having their own cleanse, Juicebox is an organic juice bar and cafe that serves organic cold-pressed, small batch, raw juices. Each contains approximately two or more pounds of fresh and local produce. Their breakfast and lunch menu is vegetable based cuisine. They offer one, three or five (or more) day consecutive juice cleanses.
Before you start any drastically different diet regimens it is important to consult a professional. Juicebox has gone ahead and take this step out for you. Their resident nutrition consultant leads the guided cleanse and is there to help with any questions you may have about their various cleanses.
The vegetable-based morning and lunch menus are updated daily to ensure the freshest and most seasonal products are being used. Their extensive drink menu consists of several different varieties to wet your whistle. Sips are cold-pressed juices such as the Blood Julius, this tasty treat contains carrots, blood orange, and turmeric root. They also offer three different Blendeds. One such drink (listed as a) on the menu) is made from cocoa nib, banana, date, and almond. For the less adventurous they also offer coffee and teas. The teas are listed as Remedy Teas and contain flavors such as Ginger Zest, or Precious Eyebrows Green. If you are in a hurry and need a small pick me up, they also offer ginger shots that are made with local raw honey.
This new addition to the already bustling Capitol Hill area is a welcomed one, and will continue to contribute to the growing diversity and expansion of this beloved neighborhood. Just stepping into their beautiful space makes you feel better, and the juices we’ve tried so far are delicious to boot!
Juicebox is located at 1517 12th Ave. Suite 100 Seattle, WA 98122
Hours of operation are Monday-Friday from 8AM to 4PM. Saturday-Sunday starting at 10AM to 4PM.
